I’m a huge proponent of radical reciprocity, which—for me—hinges on community: being part of one that feels authentic to you and giving freely to it with no transactional expectations. While writing can often be a solitary act, I don’t buy into the lone writer—the pedestaled writer—conceit, especially in this day and age when arts and artists are devalued and delegitimized at almost every turn. I think we depend on one another for solidarity and strength—and to create the noise we need to show the world that what we do and what we create matters.

This episode of “All About Canadian Books,” hosted by the warm and wonderful writer crystal fletcher, features me and two other authors I admire, and who I am privileged to have in my community: Lucy Black and Wayne Ng.

These platforms and the people behind them are crucial to supporting Canadian writers and books.
